A TOP official of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Zamboanga Peninsula has warned the public against illegal collections by a private group that claims to be affiliated with the DSWD.
DSWD Regional Director Teodulo Romo said the group known as the Mindanao Allied Forces Inc. has been operating in different parts of the region bringing the name of various DSWD projects.
Romo said the group is collecting fees in exchange for “membership in the DSWD program claiming that it had signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the department for the same purpose.”
Romo also officially wrote to Mayor Celso Lobregat informing the official about the modus operandi since the group was also monitored to be going around the city.
Romo has sought Lobregat’s assistance to inform the public about the group’s modus operandi and to help stamp out the illegal operation.
Romo clarified that Mindanao Allied Forces Inc. has not been authorized to engage in any transactions pertaining to any of the department’s projects in the region.
He urged the public to immediately report to the authorities any information concerning the operation of the group. (Bong Garcia)
